On March 13, 2017 by KC Nanobrews
Your name(s): Lance Rupert and Peter Blochberger
Your brewery’s name: Black Knuckle Brewing
Location: Overland Park, KS
Number of years participating in the Festival?
First time
When did you start brewing? What got you brewing? How frequently do you brew?
We started in the summer of 2016. We started brewing for the love of beer, and we enjoy sharing our homebrewed beer with our friends and fellow homebrewers.  We usually brew at least twice a month.
Describe your brew system.
We have a 15 gallon kettle and a standard propane burner. We use Brew in a Bag.
How did you come up with your brewery’s name?
Whenever Lance would clean the kegs and remove the gas and liquid posts, his hands would slip off and bruise his knuckles, Peter did it a couple of times too.  It looked liked we boxed 10 rounds with the keg. Thus, the name of Black Knuckle Brewing.

What is your favorite style of beer to brew?
Lance prefers IPA’s and Pale Ales, Peter prefers Brown Ales.
What was your first beer you ever brewed? Did it turn out? The first beer we brewed was a Hefeweizen extract. It was not good at all.

Do you have a homebrew disaster you’d like to share?
Recently,  Lance was carrying a full carboy and he dropped it on the kitchen floor inside his house.  Wort was spilled everywhere.  He lost over a gallon of wort, plus, it was a huge mess to clean up.
Do you have any homebrew related projects that you’d like to share?
Recently, we purchased a Rye Whiskey barrel, and we plan on barrel aging our Scotch Ales

Do you have a favorite homebrew trick or gadget that helps make brewing better/easier?
The brew in a bag definitely has made it easier and quicker to brew. Lance set up a pulley system to help the bag drain. That makes it a lot easier to get all of the wort strained.  Also,  every brew day is a new learning experience.
Have you won any awards/competitions?
What is the best prize you won?
We have yet to enter any competitions.
Do you have any plans to go pro?
No plans of going Pro so far
